Our Contribution
01
Institutional Strengthening of Guyana’s Ministry of Health and Labour
One of the ICAS’ key projects includes providing consulting services for the institutional strengthening of the Ministry of Health and Labour in Guyana, which involved establishing a Labour Market Information System, facilitated by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Ministry of Health and Labour, during 2001-2002.
02
Trade Development Activities for Food Security in Guyana
In 2002, ICAS played a vital role in developing proposals for trade development activities in Guyana as part of the Regional Special Programme for Food Security. This project, supported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), focused on formulating assistance on trade facilitation.
03
Strengthening Skills of Small Farmers in Guyana
ICAS prepared a strategy paper on economics and marketing to strengthen the skills base of small farmers in Guyana. This initiative, also conducted in 2002 with support from UNFAO and UNDP, aimed to enhance the economic capabilities and market readiness of small-scale farmers.
04
Analyzing the Impact of Social and Economic Policies in Guyana
In 2001, ICAS undertook a project to analyze the impact of social and economic policies on selected households in Guyana. This data processing and analysis work, conducted in two phases, was carried out in collaboration with the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI).
05
Educational Needs Analysis in Collaboration with Commonwealth of Learning
ICAS conducted a needs analysis survey in 2001 in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning, the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education, and the Faculty of Education at the University of Guyana. This survey aimed to identify and address educational needs within the region.
06
Enhancing Dairy Production Capabilities in Guyana
ICAS further demonstrated their expertise in agricultural development by strengthening the National Dairy Development Programme in Guyana. This project, undertaken in 2000 in collaboration with RDP Livestock Services (B.V. Netherlands) and the CDB/NDDP, focused on enhancing dairy production capabilities.
07
Evaluating IDB-Funded Projects for Impact and Effectiveness
ICAS also performed an ex-post evaluation of IDB-funded projects, specifically loans 912 and 985, completed by SIMAP between 1998 and 2001. This evaluation helped assess the effectiveness and impact of these projects, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
08
Conservation and Sustainable Use of Wildlife in Guyana
ICAS contributed to environmental sustainability through the preparation of a country review paper on the conservation, sustainable, and equitable use of wildlife in Guyana. This project, conducted in 2000 with the IWOKRAMA International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development, emphasized the importance of wildlife conservation in sustainable development.
